The Sage Group Strengthens US and EU Team with New Appointment of Mr. Glenn Kazo and Dr. Catherine Beech as Senior Directors

Cambridge UK and Bridgewater USA – May 2009 – The Sage Group is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Senior Directors – Mr. Glenn Kazo in the USA and Dr. Catherine Beech in the UK/EU. Mr. Kazo and Dr. Beech bring a breadth of additional experience and contacts in the healthcare and life science industry and financial sectors to Sage.

Mr. Glenn Kazo received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Biochemistry from Rutgers University. He has over 25 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical sector as a senior executive and scientist, with extensive business development, strategic planning, corporate financing and marketing experience in the global healthcare arena. In addition to his operational experience, Mr. Kazo has been responsible for raising over $250 million in capital from international investors, including leading efforts in three successful IPOs.  Mr. Kazo was a Founder of Enzon Inc., the pioneering drug delivery company that created PEGylation technology.  From the many collaborations originated at Enzon, the PEGylation business now includes a growing number of companies with dozens of products in development.  Seven PEGylated products currently are on the market that have collectively generated over $25 billion in sales. Subsequently, Mr. Kazo joined Focal, Inc. (now part of Genzyme Corporation) as Vice President Corporate Development, and helped take this biomaterials company public on NASDAQ. He has served on the Board of Directors of XTL, Prolong Pharmaceuticals, a development stage biogeneric company, and iviGene corporation, now a unit of Oragenics, Inc.   He was the founding Chair of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) Strategic Development Committee, and has been active in the Licensing Executives Society, Health Care Manufacturers Association, Association of University Technology Managers, and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association.

Dr Catherine Beech M.B., Ch.B. OBE is medically qualified, with degrees from University of Birmingham (UK) Medical School. She has a strong background in early stage venture capital, with multinational pharmaceutical industry experience both in Europe and the USA. She has expertise in founding, growing and exiting biotechnology and life science businesses. Catherine was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honors in June 2008 for services to innovation and technology. She is a Member of the UK Society of Investment Professionals. Catherine has previously worked as Director for Medical Affairs UK for Farmitalia Carlo Erba and Senior Director Medical Affairs, Europe, for DuPont Pharmaceuticals. Subsequent to this, she was a Founder of the Cambridge Gateway Fund, a UK-based venture capital fund where she led the healthcare team in a number of investments and was an investment adviser approved by the UK Financial Services Authority. She has sat on numerous Boards of early stage healthcare companies. More recently, she was Chief Executive of Aitua, a private investment company specializing in the commercialization of intellectual property in the life science sector. She has also served as a Member of the UK Department of Trade and Industry’s Technology Strategy Board.
